For Short Stories
Send us original, convincing short story, your best work. We are especially interested in work that shows authorial intent, and a strong sense of place or character. We accept literary fiction, speculative fiction, historical fiction, satirical and allegorical fiction, etc. We do not accept any work that defames or is damaging.
1. Length: 1000 – 2500 words.
2. Language: English, or bilingual pieces with translations included. Indigenous phrases or idioms are welcome with contextual clues.
Format:
1. Submit via the form below. Unless asked, we do not accept submissions via email.
2. 1.5 line spacing, 12-point Times New Roman.
3. Do not include your name in the post title or content.
4. Each writer may submit one story at a time. Please wait for a response before submitting another.
For Essays and book reviews
For essays, we expect the very best from you. Don’t shy away from being controversial or contrary to popular opinion. Do your research and present us with plausible facts to back up the strongest of your opinions.
For book reviews, a review of a recently published book will have a priority. We will also prioritize book reviews about recent South Sudanese and African books.
1. Use the same format as in the short story guideline.
2. Length: 800-1500 words
For Poetry
We are looking for your best unpublished pieces: talk to us, move us, enlighten us and leave us with wow on our faces and we’ll come back to you for more. We don’t care about themes because we are looking for works that travel beyond their boundaries, but we give less attention to poems carrying too much rhymes, we want you to be free in exploring your topic.
· We accept only four poems per submission window. Please wait for next window to send us another work.
· We are okay with simultaneous submissions but do inform us in advance when your work is accepted elsewhere.
· We’ll make sure to respond to all works submitted.
We prefer 12. Point Times New Roman and a single spacing.
